“Helping our neighbors in times of need is our mission and has been since 1982.”

The Queen Anne Helpline is a safety net for neighbors in need. The donations we receive help us provide:

FUNDS: For people who live in the Queen Anne area and who have suffered job loss, illness, an accident or unexpected expenses and are facing imminent eviction or utility service termination.

LIMITED BUS TICKETS: For work or medical needs.

CONTINUING EDUCATION ASSISTANCE: With rent, books, child care and tuition.

TUTORING: For elementary school students.

COORDINATION: Of donors and recipients for holiday gifts and baskets.

REFERRALS: For callers not living in the Queen Anne area or who need something we can’t provide.

PANTRY: That includes clothing, limited small household items and non-perishable foodstuffs.

Thanks To Our Volunteers

The Queen Anne Helpline Board extends heartfelt thanks to the volunteers who make the Helpline such a success. They work tirelessly on the Queen Anne Fun Run, Auction and Tree Lot projects and show up week after week, year in and year out, to answer phones and help do what the Queen Anne Helpline was created for. We could not function without this wonderful family of volunteers.

Important Announcements

Restaurant Tasting

In an effort to maximize the funds raised during the auction and ensure that more funds go directly to the clients, the Helpline decided to invite a wider variety of restaurants to serve you plentiful hors d’oeuvres in lieu of the traditional catered dinner. Be sure to sample and savor the treats offered by seven of your favorite local restaurants!

Golden Raffle

You have the opportunity to take home a LIVE auction item of your choice without bidding! A limited number of golden tickets will be sold for $100.00 each to enter this drawing. And even if your ticket is not the first drawn, you could still be a winner with two fabulous runner-up prizes available.

Raise The Paddle

During the live auction you will be asked to “Raise The Paddle” in support of the Queen Anne Helpline. Your generous cash contributions will be used to continue the important services provided to clients of the Helpline.

Mystery Boxes $25 or $50

Look for the table of gaily wrapped packages. A limited number of $25 and $50 mystery boxes will be available so make your choice early! A complete list of mystery box contents and their value will be posted at the table. Values for the $25 boxes range from $25 to $60 and the $50 boxes range from $50 to $125.

Silent Wine Auction

The Helpline is once again proud to offer a variety of superb wine pairings for bid. There will be approximately 40-50 pairings available. A full listing of the wines will be provided at the auction itself, but will include; Alexandria Nicole 2007 Destiny Ridge Merlot, Alia 2006 Merlot, Baer Winery 2006 Ursa Red Wine, Cascadia Winery 2008 Roussanne and Chateau St. Michelle 2007 Eroica Riesling. We wish to extend our thanks to the following generous contributors to the wine auction: Dan McCarthy, John & Julie Turner, Paul & Carol Abodeely, Charlotte Wollheim, Jeffrey Sprung, Ellen Gillette, Windermere Real Estate-Queen Anne, Doug & Kindred Colbeck.

Jump Start Live Auction

A limited number of items will be available for preview and pre-bidding prior to the beginning of the Live Auction. Depending on the level of interest some items may be moved into the Live Auction. Please note that in order to be eligible to bid on a Jump Start item in the live auction, you must have already bid on the item at the silent table.

Dessert Dash

The dessert dash will be returning this year due to it’s popularity! Be sure to stop by the table downstairs to check out the delectable desserts donated by local bakeries and friends of the Helpline. At your table is a bid sheet. There is one bid sheet per table. You and your guests must pool your money. Bid sheets will be picked up during dinner and tallied. The table with the highest bid will get to dash and choose their dessert first. Then the next highest and so on.

Centerpieces

The centerpieces are available for bid. Many thanks to Metropolitan Market and Sobeck Studios for creating these lovely pieces.

Remember The Christmas Tree Lot

The annual Christmas Tree Lot benefiting Queen Anne Helpline and Boy Scout Troop 72 will open November 28, 2009. You’ll find the tree lot in the Safeway parking lot off Crockett Street. Several varieties of trees are available as well as wreaths, garlands and tree stands. Volunteers are needed to staff the lot. Please call the Helpline office at 206-282-1540 if you are available to help. It’s a great way to get in the holiday spirit!

GENERAL AUCTION RULES

  1. Upon entry, each guest will be given a bid card. To bid in the silent auction, simply write your bid number on the silent auction bid form. To bid in the live auction, hold up your bid card with the number toward the auctioneer. By bidding in the live or silent auctions each bidder agrees to these auction rules.

  2. A bid acknowledged by the live auctioneer is a legal contract to purchase the item. As well, in the silent auction, designation of the bid you have written by the silent auction official as the top bid is legal contract to purchase that silent auction item.

  3. Top bidders may pay for their items at the auction cashiering stations, which open for regular service at the conclusion of the live auction. It is not necessary to pay for each item after its purchase and we encourage you to pay for your purchases only once, at the end of the live auction. Payment in full, however, is mandatory a the auction.

  4. Auction items will be awarded to one purchaser only. The top bid amount for an auction item will not be split up among bidders who may have agreed to pay a portion of the top bid amount. A purchaser who wishes to so split the payment for an auction item must collect the individual payments from the other bidder(s). The either present those payments to the cashiers at the time the purchaser pays for the top bidder(s) purchases or accept those payments as a partial reimbursement for the total payment the purchaser has made.

  5. All purchases are final and there will be no exchanges or refunds on items unless otherwise noted.

  6. Bidders who elect at registration to be served under the Express Pay system do not have to stand in line to pay for their purchases. Instead, guests using Express Pay will have paid receipts for their auction purchases delivered to them during the course of the auction. Please see the Express Pay information for details.

  7. The auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid which is a minimal fractional advance over the prior bid. The auctioneer reserves the right to add, withdraw, without notice items to or from the auction.

  8. We will gladly accept your payment by currency, your check, Visa or MasterCard. Please make your check payments payable to the Queen Anne Helpline. The Inernal Revenue Service has granted Queen Anne Helpline charitable organization status. We are, thus, a 501(c)3 charitable organization and your payments are tax deductible as a charitable contribution, only to the extent provided by law. Generally you may deduct as a charitable contribution the amount you pay above the fair market value of the item. Please see your tax professional for deductibility to you.

  9. Unless otherwise noted, all goods and services must be claimed and used within one year of the auction date.

  10. The purchaser assumes the responsibility to locate and remover purchases from the auction premises. Purchasers may claim from the Certificate Table the certificate(s) for services and tangible items not displayed. Just show your paid receipt and you will receive the certificate.

  11. Reservations for trips and vacation accomodations must be mutually arranged wit the donor unless otherwise noted. Tickets in travel packages are for coach class unless otherwise noted. No refunds will be allowed on travel packages for cancelled tickets and/or accomodations.

  12. Travel will be provided by donors as described even if the prices increase above those stated. Because travel charges change, travel costs may decrease the value stated, but no refunds will be allowed.

  13. All items not removed from the auction premises this evening may be claimed during the week following the auction at the Queen Anne Helpline office during normal business hours.

  14. Queen Anne Helpline has attempted to describe and catalog all items correctly, but all items are offered as is, where is. Queen Anne Helpline neither warrants nor represents, and in no event shall be responsible for the correctness of descriptions, genuineness, authorship, provenance or condition of the items. No statement made in this catalog or made orally at the auction or elsewhere shall be deemed such a warranty for tax purposes or fair market value. Items have not been appraised unless otherwise noted.

  15. Each person issued a bid number (bidder) assumes all risks and hazards relation to the auction and items obtained at the auction. Each bidder agrees to hold harmless from any liability arising therefrom Queen Anne Helpline, its elected and appointed officials, members and employees, the auctioneer(s), the auction company and its agents and employees, the event organizers, sponsors and/or volunteers connected with the auction.

SILENT AUCTION

  1. Items offered in the silent auction will have silent auction bid forms attached to them or on a table nearby. You may bid by simply writing your bid number on the form, opposite the amount you want to bid. We ask you to press hard as you are making three copies.

  2. You do not have to take the next available bid amount, but may skip ahead on the form to find the amount you really want to bid. The next bidder must bid a higher amount than you did to be successful.

  3. If you really want an item, just write your bid number opposite the amount labeled Guaranteed Purchase and you own the item. Once you write your bid number on the Guaranteed Purchase line, the bidding on that line in concluded.

  4. You may bid on any item in the silent auction until the section is closed. Bidding for items in the silent auction sections will close at the time posted. A silent auction official will circle the top bid number and amount. You can see if you are the successful purchaser by looking at a copy (pink) of the silent auction bid form, which is left in its place after the section is closed.

LIVE AUCTION

  1. You may preview the live auction from the time the doors open until the start of the live auction. Please feel free to come right up to the display of the live auction items. We want you to have adequate time and opportunity to see the excellent quality of the live auction items. Also, please not any restrictions, limitations, sizes, etc.

  2. The live auction will begin at 7:00pm and continue without intermission until all items have been auctioned.

  3. You may bid in the live auction by holding up high your bid card with the number toward the auctioneer. Either the auctioneer or bid spotter can accept your bid.

Express Pay

If you want to avoid standing in line to pay at the end of our auction, just give us your credit card at registration! That is all there is for you to do- let us swipe your credit card at the start of the auction and you will not have to stand in line to pay at the end of the auction. Then feel free to bid and contribute throughout the auction. The total amount of your purchases and donations will be charged to your credit card.

As the live auction begins, volunteers will deliver to you at your table, your auction preliminary statement of account showing exactly what you purchased in the silent auction. Our volunteers will also deliver to you the gift certificates for your silent auction purchases. If you purchase a physical item in the silent auctions, we ask that you pick up your item upstairs as you leave. If you purchase an item in the live auction a volunteer runner will deliver to you at your table proof of purchase for that live auction item. So at the end of the auction, you have all your gift certificates and all you have to do is pick up your physical items and be on your way! No standing in line!

In the week following the auction, you will receive in the mail a copy of your credit card charge slip and your final auction statement of account so you will be able to confirm the total amount charged to your credit card.
